Problem description:
I would like to set up several iQ-VIEW stations in the same network to communicate with the PACS and maybe the modalities (CR, MRI, CT, etc.). Is it possible to use the same AE title for all iQ-VIEW stations?
Solution:
No, it is not recommended to use the same DICOM Application Entity Title (AE Title) for two or more DICOM stations (PACS, viewers, modalities, etc.) in the same medical network. This can always lead to problems in the DICOM communication. For instance, if you want to transfer images from iQ-WEB as a central PACS to an iQ-VIEW station, the iQ-WEB would not know where to send the images if the same AE title is configured for more than one iQ-VIEW station. Therefore, an AE title in a medical network should always be unique.
iQ-VIEW comes with a default AE title, called IQSERVER. If you need to set up several iQ-VIEW stations in your network, it will be necessary to change the AE title so that each station has a unique one. Also remember to adapt the settings in the stations (e.g. PACS, modalities) that those iQ-VIEW stations are supposed to communicate with.
The iQ-VIEW AE title can be chosen directly when starting iQ-VIEW for the first time after the installation. A dialog will be opened where you can configure the AE title and the port on which iQ-VIEW will listen. If you need to change the AE title or port at a later time, you can do so in the iQ-VIEW Server Admin Tool:
Also, always make sure that the port you choose for iQ-VIEW is not already used by another application or blocked, e.g. by a firewall. In that case an unimpeded DICOM communication will not be possible.
Example: You have iQ-VIEW and the orthopaedic post-processing module iQ-OrthoVIEW installed on the same computer. Both are by default listening on port 104. You will need to change the port of at least one application.
